Seems to be the season for lists!

Came across the "sportscotland-scottish sports hall of fame" and was interesting to see that only Hamish MacInnes and Dougal Haston (and some other bloke nobodys heard of) made it in for climbing/mountaineering.

So..

Who would people have in thier Scottish Climbers Hall of Fame? (self-nominations aside  Roll Eyes )

If you're interested you can nominate at http://www.sshf.co.uk/contact

I'd maybe go..

W.H. Murray
Tom Patey
Robin Smith
The Haston
John Cunningham
Andy Nisbet
Cubby Cuthbertson
Malc Smith
Dave Mac

..obviously there are tons more but (lights blue touch paper) what do ppl think?

Doing a find on mountaineering only showed the 2...

Part of the selection criteria is

  • A person who has been retired from top level participation for five years or more.

Which rules out a few in your list

I was tricked!  Huh

Somehow when i searched i got the "walking" and "mountaineering" categories together, and some geezer famous for rambling in the 1800s came up.. (my ongoing struggle with modern technology continues..)

On the 5 years retired front, i get that for thier list but i thought it was a crap rule so ignored it  Tongue

I guess what i should have said is who would people add/remove to my list as a starter, and why? (could be a modern or past climber).

Some more possibilities:

Julian Lines
Alan Mullin
Mark Garthwaite
Gary Latter
Rab Anderson

I'd like to nominate myself for building the Alien Rock left hand tufa, possibly the most climbed route in the whole of Scotland ever.

Scottish climbers eh.

Julian isn't Scottish. Neither is Mick Fowler to my knowledge.

Can I add Wilson Moir and Neil Morrison.

Both set cutting edge trad and sport climbs in their time. (Still cranking hard too)!

some non-scots climbers have had a major impact on scottish climbing, their place of birth is irrelevant

Would they not then go into the "Scottish Climbing Hall of Fame" rather than the discussed "Scottish Climbers Hall of Fame", non?!  Tongue
